Modern slavery statement
Last updated 29 September 2026
This statement sets out the steps National Guaranteed Rent Scheme Ltd takes to understand and address the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and our supply chain.
Our business
We lease residential property from private landlords on fixed-term agreements, manage those properties, and place occupiers in them, including through arrangements with local authorities and registered providers. We operate across the United Kingdom.
Where the risk sits
We consider the principal risks in our business to be:
- Maintenance and refurbishment contractors, where labour in the construction and trades sector can involve subcontracting chains, agency workers and migrant labour;
- Cleaning and property clearance services, for the same reasons;
- Occupancy, where a managed property could be misused for exploitation or cuckooing without the knowledge of the landlord or the managing agent.
What we do about it
Contractors and suppliers
- We check that contractors are properly constituted businesses and hold the insurance and qualifications they claim.
- We expect contractors to pay at least the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage, to hold lawful right-to-work evidence for their workers, and to pass the same expectations down their own supply chain.
- We do not engage labour through providers who cannot tell us who is doing the work.
Properties and occupiers
- Our housing officers carry out documented inspections every quarter and are briefed on the indicators of exploitation, including unexplained additional occupants, controlled movement, poor condition inconsistent with the rent paid, and occupants without access to their own documents or money.
- Concerns are escalated internally the same day, and where appropriate reported to the police, the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700, or the safeguarding team at the relevant local authority.
- We carry out Right to Rent checks as required in England, and we retain records of them.
Our own people
- We verify the right to work of everyone we employ, and we pay directly into a bank account in that person's own name.
- Staff can raise a concern without fear of detriment.
